“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” Mt 6:21
Lent is a time of detachment from things of this world. A time to evaluate where we are storing our treasures. A time to ask ourselves, “What’s the priority in our lives?”
Notice I said priority, not priorities. Singular.
Why? Because, we only have one will. And, we can’t divide it. We can’t will two things – when there’s a conflict, one will win.
God commands us with that one will to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” Mk 12:30
All of us. Everything. We must be all in. We can’t go ‘halfsies’ with God. A servant cannot serve two masters. A house divided will not stand.
So, then it comes back to the question of priority. Is our faith our #1 priority? If faith’s not #1, what is? Or, here’s another question, do we know faith should be #1? Do we honestly want faith to be #1?
Lord, I desire to desire you. I want to want to love you more.
Be the Men.
