Today, we begin the first day of the Easter Triduum, Holy Thursday. In the passion of our Lord, there’s a lot that happens on Thursday: the Last Supper, the Agony in the Garden, Christ’s arrest, Peter’s denial.
After starting with Christ’s glorious entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, today is when things take a dark turn. Take some time today to enter into Christ’s passion. If you can, get to Mass tonight. The Gospel will be the Last Supper and the washing of the feet.
At the very least, you can read Matthew’s Gospel here: Matthew
And in case you didn’t know, after Mass tonight, parishes will open up their doors for Adoration (some until Midnight). We do this to spend time with our Lord before He is taken from us. As this night was the last with Christ for the Apostles, we too savor every moment before the darkness of Good Friday. This is a very special time to spend with our Lord. Draw close to Him.
“When he returned to his disciples he found them asleep. He said to Peter, “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?” Mt 26:41
