There’s a constant fight for our attention. Plenty of good things requires our attention, and plenty of trash finds our attention.
As we talked about a few weeks ago, it’s important to step away and relish in the silence. But, it’s also very important to ensure we are putting quality stuff in front of our eyes or ears.
So, with that in mind, today, we’ve got our first Be the Men recommendation…
Fr. Mike Schmitz
Fr. Mike is chaplain on a university campus, but also puts out some awesome content online. He really has his finger on the pulse of American Culture (of course, from the Church’s perspective). He has videos and podcasts that hit on some great topics – often taking on current events, movies, etc. He’s also an athlete and has competed in at least a few Ironman Triathlons (a theme that you’ll see).
And, most of his stuff is 5-10 minutes, easily digestible. Just some high quality stuff.
So, where can you find him?
Podcasts – He’s got two podcasts – one is 5-7 minutes of his thoughts on a topic (officially titled The Fr. Mike Schmitz Podcast). And, you can also find his Sunday homilies under UMD Newman Catholic Campus Ministry. Both are fantastic, definitely worth the subscribe.
YouTube – If you don’t do podcasts, you can find the Fr. Mike Schmitz Podcast in video form on YouTube or on Ascension Presents website here. Same exact thing, just a different medium.
Those CDs in the lobby of church. Fr. Mike usually has talks on CDs that most churches have in the lobby. Sidenote, there is some real gold in those CDs, check them out.
Sometime today, pick out a podcast episode or video, and take 5-10 minutes to listen. It’s really worth it and I think you’ll find at least one that piques your interest.
Be the Men.
