There are a lot of hot button issues facing our Church today. Abortion, same-sex attraction, gender dysphoria, and that’s just to name a few of the big ones.
In my life, I personally don’t have much experience with this type of stuff. My ‘experience’ is often just reading articles and listening to talks, often turning to Catholic apologists to present Church teaching.
To me, the Church teaching makes sense. Here’s the argument, if you accept logic and reasoning, it’s a slam dunk.
But, I recently had a striking reminder – with all of these issues that get thrust into the media and political space, there are real people caught in the middle.
Real women contemplating abortion. Real people attracted to the same sex, trying to understand how they can still be Catholic. Real men and women who are struggling with their very identity.
For most of us, the issues are just issues, but for them, it’s their lives. And, they’re walking such a difficult path.
What are we to do – those of us seemingly on the sidelines?
While we may not be equipped to explain Church teaching, or present the truth in a loving way, we all are more than capable of prayer. And, these people so badly need prayers.
