In the past few weeks, I’ve been reminded (or hit over the head) of how easy it is to make someone’s day. And, even if it’s not easy, it’s always worth the effort.

Whether it’s a thoughtful gift, a kind word, being inclusive, or going 100% in a 3 year old’s make believe game. Our actions, no matter how small, have effects. The question is do we want those effects to be positive or negative?

We get caught up in our own little world. We’re so preoccupied by our needs and what we want and what we want to do that it’s easy to blow right past others, even those closest to us.

I once heard it likened to walking into a dinner party or event. We immediately start thinking of ourselves, even getting that feeling that everyone is looking at me. But, what if we walk in and immediately think – who can I help today? Shifting our gaze outward instead of inward.

Now, what if we start our days with that mindset?

It gets really interesting, right? Are we going to hit a home run every time? No. Will it feel a little awkward at first? Probably.

But over weeks, months, or years of thinking like that – bringing that to our marriages, our families, our friendships, to complete strangers?

Man, that’d be something to see.
