Today, we’re talking about baseball brawls.
Why do fights happen in baseball? For justice? To defend one’s honor? Sure. But, fights happen in the first place because in baseball no one fights alone. The batter knows he’s got one or two good chances to land one, before the pitcher’s mound is swarmed. Afterall, it’s called a benches clearing brawl. In baseball, no one fights alone.
Unfortunately in today’s world, lots of men do fight alone. Of course it doesn’t have to be this way.
The truth is we all have or will have crosses to bear in life. Our closest friends are there to get us through the difficulties. Do we have fellow men in our lives who we can confide in, who we can be ourselves around? Or, do we have friends that can shoot the breeze with, but who aren’t really there when the ‘fit hits the shan?’ Or, are we that friend?
Because, there’s also a flip side. There are men in our lives who are bearing crosses that we don’t even know about, and they might feel alone. The challenge for us to be humble enough to admit we need our friends, and courageous enough to be a true friend.
“There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship.” – St. Thomas Aquinas
