In 1917, Our Lady appeared to three shepherd children near Fatima, Portugal.
She showed the children visions, taught them prayers, and issued warnings. One such warning was this: “Pray, pray a great deal, and make sacrifices for sinners, for many souls go to Hell because they have no one to pray and make sacrifices for them.”
That’s a nice gut shot to start the day. Many souls will go to Hell. Eternal suffering. This is not just life and death that we’re talking about here, it’s eternal life and death. For our souls, the souls of those we love, and the souls of all of humanity.
Now, in Our Lady’s words, we have the problem and the solution: no one is offering prayers and sacrifices for them.
Prayers and sacrifices. What further motivation do we need to develop a prayer life, for praying the Rosary? As far as offering sacrifices, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but life is not always easy. Struggles and suffering are a part of life. Yes, we should be taking up voluntary sacrifices but we can start by accepting the sacrifices given to us. Offer them up to the conversion of sinners.
And by doing this, we hope to not only save others from Hell, but our own souls as well.
